Summer Events at Dharma Jewel Zen Monastery:
Sunday 6/22 9:30am - 12pm: Medicine Buddha Gratitude Ceremony (in Chinese with English translation) followed by free vegan lunch
Thursday 6/26 6:30pm: free movie showing - Peaceable Kingdom
A riveting story of transformation and healing, PEACEABLE KINGDOM: THE JOURNEY HOME explores the awakening conscience of several people who grew up in traditional American farming culture and who have now come to question the basic assumptions of their way of life.
Thursdays 7/3, 7/10, and 7/17 6:30-8:30pm: free vegetarian cooking workshop! hands-on instruction, all cooking supplies and food provided free of charge
Sunday 7/27 9:30am - 12pm: Medicine Buddha Gratitude Ceremony followed by free vegan lunch
Save the Date for the fall semester course! Tuesdays starting September 9th, 6:30 - 8:30pm, Beginner's Meditation and Fundamental Concepts of Buddhism (English) -- free! This is a wonderful class great for both complete beginners as well as experienced practitioners alike, taught by senior nuns from Chung Tai Chan Monastery. Completion of this class is a prerequisite for advanced meditation class and sutra study classes; enrollment in this class also allows attendance at weekend meditation retreats. Drepung Loseling Monastery will celebrate the 79th birthday of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama on July 6th with the traditional long life prayer for His Holiness at 9:30 am in the Prayer Hall followed by a pot luck lunch at 12:30 with the DLM staff and monks.
