Happy New Year! We hope you resolve to improve your health, decrease stress, focus your mind, and discover your inner wisdom through wholesome speech, action, and thoughts this year! If you're around, here are some off-campus events this week to motivate you! Also, if you are coming back to campus and don't have a car, let me know if you want a ride from the airport or to get groceries at HongKong Supermarket or Publix!

Beginner Meditation and Buddhism Class starts this week at Dharma Jewel Zen Monastery. This free 11 week course is on Thursdays from 6:30pm – 8:30pm in English. In Chinese will be on Saturdays at 1:30pm. Children's course on Sunday afternoons.

This Saturday January 10 is a one-day Vipassana Meditation Retreat at Kim Cang Monastery in Lithonia. The retreat is from 9am – 6pm, but if you are unable to come for the whole day, you may join us for a portion. Vegetarian lunch provided, event is free and will be bilingual Vietnamese and English.

The Foundations Series, which introduces fundamental Buddhist concepts over 5 Saturdays, also begins this weekend at Drepung Loseling Monastery. Pre-registration and modest fee required. In addition, free weekly events continue including Basics of Meditation on Sundays at 11am, and Medicine Buddha Practice and public talks on Tuesday nights at 6:30 and 7:30pm, and Cognitive Compassion meditation on Thursdays at 6pm.

The Georgia Meditation Center at 4522 Tilly Mill Rd continues to have free guided meditation each Wednesday night at 7pm (in English with Thai translation)

The Atlanta Soto Zen Center (minutes from campus) will host multiple meditations daily (early morning, afternoon, and late evening) for the month of January! A special guided introduction geared for newcomers will continue to be Wednesday nights at 7:30pm.

To end, we share news about Buddhist Global Relief, a Buddhist charity founded in America – it has celebrated its 6th year! As a true non-profit, BGR has almost no overhead costs – no executive salaries as all positions are volunteer, so that as much of the donations as possible can be used to reduce people's suffering.
