About some of our guest speakers:
Ven. Jin He ordained as a fully ordained Buddhist monk in 2013. He began living in the City of Ten Thousand Buddhas in 2009 and became a novice monk in 2011. Originally from Malaysia, Ven. Jin He attended university in Australia and received a degree in Economics and Finance, later working as a strategic business consultant before deciding to become a monk.
Ven. Jin Chuan was ordained as a Buddhist monk in 2013. As a typical second-generation Asian-American growing up in the Silicon Valley, he grew up studying mostly science, math, and technology and playing a lot of basketball. However, at the end of high school in 1999, to the surprise of himself and his family, he realized his path in life was to be a monastic. Before leaving home, Reverend Jin Chuan graduated from Stanford with an M.A. in Religious Studies and a B.S. in Physics.

Classical learning for a contemporary world...
DRBU is a small private school dedicated to liberal education in the broad Buddhist tradition-a tradition characterized by knowledge in the arts and sciences, self-cultivation, and the pursuit of wisdom. Know yourself; know the world. These are the enduring hallmarks of an educated person, both East and West, and the essence of the DRBU experience.

About our Founder
Venerable Master Hsuan Hua was born in Harbin, China in 1918. The Dharma Realm Buddhist Association was founded by the Venerable Master in the United States of America in 1959. In 1969, he astonished the monastic community of Taiwan by sending there, for complete ordination, two American women and three American men whom he had ordained as novices. They were among the first Americans to become fully ordained Buddhist monks and nuns in the Mahayana tradition. In 1976, the headquarters of the Dharma Realm Buddhist Association was moved to the newly established City of Ten Thousand Buddhas in Ukiah, California. Venerable Master was determined to transmit to the West the correct teachings of Buddhism, and he categorically rejected what he considered to be corrupt practices that had become widespread in China. He guided his disciples in distinguishing between genuine, scripture-based practices that were useful and in accord with common sense, as opposed to ritual superstitions that were unwholesome cultural accretions.
