Guided Meditation and Dharma Talk
Thursday with Emory Buddhist Club

Our teacher this week is an American Buddhist monk, Venerable Sunyananda, visiting us from United Buddhist Church in Missouri. He initially ordained in a Korean Seon (Zen) tradition and is one of the few Westerners to become fully ordained in a Lâm T? Thi?n (Vietnamese Zen) tradition. As someone who was born and grew up in the Midwest, he adopted a very pluralistic approach to engaging the dharma, and strives to foster an atmosphere where truly all are welcome to explore and integrate Buddhist teachings. Come out and join us on Thursday at 6pm in Cannon Chapel!

In the Western world, buddhas and bodhisattvas are frequently used as carriers for advertising luxury goods, as objets d'art, and as body ornaments. In a lecture titled Buddha in a Shopping Bag, Martin Brauen, chief curator emeritus at the Rubin Museum of Art, explores such uses of sacred Buddhist images and ways in which contemporary artists are depicting and transforming Buddhist symbols.
